We’re focusing on Double Doors, a versatile and secure option that often gets compared to French doors. While the two share similarities in style, the main difference lies in how the locks work on Rockdoors, and it’s important for us as a team to understand this when talking with customers.
HOW DOUBLE DOORS WORK
Rockdoor Double Doors use one main door leaf with a key-operated lock. When the main door is unlocked, the secondary door can then be opened manually using finger bolts that secure it into the outer frame. Because of this design, if a lever handle is chosen, it will only appear on the main door leaf. Homeowners who prefer bar handles can have them fitted on both doors, as bar handles aren’t part of the locking system in the same way. In this case, the doors will still only feature one escutcheon for the key lock.
HOW THEY DIFFER FROM FRENCH DOORS
French doors, although similar in appearance, use two separate mechanical locks — one on each door leaf. This means lever handles can be used on both doors, but bar handles cannot be fitted. This distinction is important for homeowners to understand, as it often influences whether French or Double Doors are the better fit for their home.

ARE ROCKDOOR DOUBLE DOORS SECURE?
Double doors historically had a reputation for being insecure, but that isn’t the case with Rockdoor. Each set features a key-operated lock with two steel hooks that engage into reinforced keeps on the secondary door. The secondary door is then secured by strong finger bolts that must be manually engaged into the frame. This combination ensures the doors can’t be forced apart.
Our double doors are fitted with robust hinges and security hinge pins, just like you’d expect on French doors, for extra strength and peace of mind.

Plus, like all our Rockdoors, our double doors are fitted with Avocet 3 Star Cylinders, which are specifically designed to resist picking, drilling, and bumping. These locks come with a £2,000 security guarantee, which is a great reassurance you can share with homeowners to build their confidence in our double doors.
