Continuing our theme of taking ‘A Closer Look’, we wanted to go into more detail about why we’ve used the same high-quality hinges, for almost 30 years.
 
Our German engineered 3-way adjustable hinges have featured on every door we have ever made here at Rockdoor. So that goes to show just how highly we and our customers regard them.
 
Due to the weight of a Rockdoor, which is needed to support that premium feel when opening and closing, it has always meant we’ve had to choose the best, the most premium hinges available to complement our door. Below we explain why they are several steps ahead of the competition.

HINGES PERFORM TWO FUNCTIONS 
First, our hinges are routed into the frame, meaning the full body of the hinge supports the door weight, not just the screws holding it in, they support the opening and closing of a door, and with doors constantly being opened and closed, they must perform to the highest of standards over the lifetime of the door to ensure frictionless operation.
 
All Rockdoor hinges use high-quality Teflon bushes to reduce the friction between the moving parts of the hinge. This means no binding or friction when opening and closing.  Teflon bushes, also known as PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), are commonly used on industrial machinery and automotive car parts when self-lubricating properties, longevity and performance are critical.
 
Second, they support the security of the door itself. All our hinges are secured in place with fixing points into either the steel reinforced outerframe or the aluminium reinforced inner frame.
 
This means that once secured in place, they play a pivotal part in the door's overall protection and performance. By being secured into steel or aluminium, the hinges are more secure than when attached to softwood, which is commonly used in composite doors. External opening doors also come with grub screws for extra security.

3-Way adjustable butt hinges are pretty common nowadays in the door industry. However, there are standard adjustable hinges, and then there are Rockdoor adjustable hinges. The two products don’t compare.
 
Of course, they cost a little more than the run-of-the-mill hinges, but the frictionless quality and precision of adjustment they provide, thanks to the components used within the hinge, is worth the investment.
