Rockdoor’s 3-Star Cylinder: Tested, Trusted, and Secure
Every Rockdoor includes a 3-star cylinder tested to stop break-ins. It’s one of the core features of our doors' locking mechanism.
A front door should do more than look good—it needs to protect what matters most. That’s why every Rockdoor comes with a 3APECS AP v3 3-star cylinder as standard. This high-specification lock plays a vital role in keeping your home safe and secure, and it’s one of the key reasons Rockdoor is a reliable choice by thousands of homeowners across the UK.
Let’s take a closer look at what makes this cylinder so important, and how it works alongside other Rockdoor features to deliver unbeatable protection for your home.
What Makes a 3-Star Cylinder So Secure?
Rockdoor composite doors are built with security and energy efficiency in mind from the very start, and the cylinder is one of the most important parts of our locking mechanism, helping it perform at its best. Our APECS AP v3 cylinder has been independently tested and certified to BSI 3 Star Kitemark and Sold Secure Diamond standards and meets the latest TS007-1:2024 requirements. That means it’s been rigorously tested to withstand some of the most common methods of forced entry.
Most door break-ins occur when intruders target the cylinder, using methods like snapping, drilling, or bumping to get through. But the APECS AP v3 is engineered to resist these attacks, with protection against snapping, drilling, plug extraction, picking and bumping, as well as protection against freeze attacks.
The cylinder features a redesigned, patent-pending anti-snap mechanism. If the external part of the cylinder is attacked and snapped, the mechanism is designed to protect the remaining cylinder against further external manipulation while keeping the lock operable from inside.
Designed for Modern Security Threats
The APECS AP v3 has been developed to protect against a wide range of forced-entry techniques. Alongside its anti-snap protection, it incorporates anti-pick and anti-drill protection, as well as a double locking mechanism designed to resist bumping.
It has also been updated to meet the latest TS007-1:2024 requirements, including protection against freeze attacks. A cold-resistant, high-torsion spring helps the cylinder continue to resist attack even when extreme cold is used in an attempt to weaken the locking mechanism.
Our focus is on how the lock performs in real-life situations, not just passing tests on paper. The cylinder is built to handle actual break-in attempts, offering real protection where it matters most. And to prove how reliable it is, every Rockdoor comes with a £5,000 security guarantee. That’s how confident we are in its strength and performance.
Rockdoor Keys Made Simple
Security should be strong, but also convenient. That’s why the APECS AP v3 cylinder is supplied with five all-metal keys, manufactured from nickel-coated brass and using APECS’ dimple and slider hybrid key profile. They’re designed to provide smooth, reliable operation while forming an important part of the cylinder’s overall security.
If you need an additional or replacement key, genuine copies can be produced through APECS or an authorised APECS Prime Centre using the unique key reference number associated with your cylinder. The cylinder also supports APECS Key Secure, a registration system that allows you to create a personal security code which must be provided before additional genuine keys can be produced.
And in the rare case that your lock needs replacing, whether due to wear or damage, the cylinder can be changed without hassle. Just contact your Rockdoor installer, who has been fully trained to handle any part of the locking system. You can find your local Trusted Installer here.
