What is Steel Mesh Reinforcing?
Behind the stylish exterior of exclusive Rockdoor lies a layer of welded and galvanised steel mesh. It’s a key part of what makes these doors so secure, but what does it actually do?
Think of it a bit like reinforced concrete. Just as steel rods are used in concrete to add strength and stop it from breaking, we use a mesh made from 2.5mm steel rods inside our doors. These rods are welded together at 50mm intervals and fitted securely into the door's internal structure.
The mesh sits between layers of tough, thermally efficient PVC-U skins and is firmly fixed in place using what we call “P clips” before being surrounded by high-density polyurethane (PU) foam. It’s all tucked away out of sight, but it plays a major role in reinforcing the door from the inside out.

The steel mesh isn’t just there for show. It’s part of a trio of internal reinforcements that make Rockdoor one of the strongest composite doors available.
Each Rockdoor features a reinforced aluminium and PVC-U inner frame, designed to add rigidity and hold everything firmly in place. Combined with the welded steel mesh, these elements work together to improve the door’s structural integrity dramatically.
This means it’s far more resistant to cutting, drilling, and forced entry, giving you an extra level of protection where it really matters. And the best part? This added strength doesn’t mean compromising on the things you care about, such as energy efficiency or style. Your Rockdoor still looks great and performs brilliantly, while offering an extra layer of security.

That’s why we combine steel mesh reinforcing with a core of polyurethane (PU) foam inside the door. The steel mesh increases the door’s strength and resistance to forced entry, while the PU foam delivers excellent insulation, keeping warmth in and energy bills down.
