Official blog of the leading composite door – Rockdoor
As the UKs leading composite door manufacturer renowned for strength and security, Rockdoor was recently asked to help an elderly couple who sadly became the victims of a burglary whilst they were away on holiday.
Their story was featured on the new BBC1 daytime programme called ‘Crime Scene Investigates’ in which Rav Wilding (a former Crime Presenter and Police Officer) and his team undertake the ultimate support for victims of burglaries, working to secure their homes, give them a security make-over and try to put the heart back in their homes.
The elderly couple from West Yorkshire had their old timber front door completely removed and replaced with a high security made to measure Rockdoor. Their new Rockdoor composite door features industry leading levels of security as standard including multi point hook locks, carbon fibre reinforced frame, 50mm thick door sash and cylinder guard protectors. Never again will they need to worry about the fear of a burglar gaining access through their front door.
Other crime prevention work carried out at the property to improve the couples security included new uPVC windows featuring laminated glass, new exterior lighting and the planting of prickly bushes to deter would be criminals.
Whilst burglary is distressing enough, often the fear of crime is just as stressful for some families. As a result of the show several homeowners have chosen to secure their homes with a Rockdoor composite door.
We are pleased to inform Rockdoor customers that Ultimate Series Rockdoors are now available with ‘new and improved’ Fab n Fix Hardex-Graphite Satin Chrome Handles, Letterplates, Knockers and Numerals as standard.
Hardex- Graphite Satin Chrome Handles, Letterplates, Knockers and Numerals are designed to significantly improve the weatherability over and above the existing product offering.
Leading Industry Standard
The Electro Finish used in the production process allows for superior performance over and above the industry norm. Most notably, Hardex –Graphite Satin Chrome is 4 x better than similar products on the market when tested for corrosion resistance, UV resistance and abrasion resistance making it perfect for the UK’s unpredictable weather climate. It’s also astonishingly 10 x more robust for smear resistance against competitor products usedon composite doors.
Appearance
Hardex –Graphite Satin Chrome is slightly brighter than the current Satin Chrome offered by Rockdoor, but not as shiny as Polished Chrome. (Therefore it’s perfect for customers who feel Satin Chrome is a little too dull in appearance and polished Chrome to shiny – the new Satin Chrome sits nicely in the middle.)

In an industry first, leading composite door manufacturer Rockdoor has launched a brand new innovative iPhone and iPad App to help homeowners to find the perfect door for their home.
Using this new App, customers can take a photograph of their home and visualize what different doors styles, colours and glass designs look like in position before making their decision using Augmented Reality (AR) technology. Once captured, the images can be shared with family and friends via social media and email so customers can gain a second opinion quickly and easily.
The App, available for free from the App Store or via www.rockdoor.com, has been developed exclusively by Rockdoor to support their recent introduction of the Ultimate, Elite and Select Series Rockdoors, which offer industry leading security and thermal efficiency.
“With an ever increasing number of people using iPhones and iPads, we wanted to introduce a new way for homeowners to choose a Rockdoor which best suited their home – using the latest innovative AR technology available. What we have developed is quick and easy to use even for technophobes.” commented Chris Hall, Marketing Manager of Rockdoor. “Our customers will also be able to utilise the App as a fantastic new sales tool when selling in the home, by simply taking a picture of the customer’s front door before going into the sales call”.
Rockdoor will shortly be introducing an App for other smart phones.

Thousands of properties across Lancashire benefit from the security of a Rockdoor composite door, but while the doors protect homes and businesses they can
also make it difficult to enable access in emergency situations. While acknowledging the high levels of safety and security against burglary that a Rockdoor affords (both front doors and back doors), Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service also identified the access issue challenging the emergency services.
Keen to assist, Rockdoor opened its Blackburn facility to the Service, allowing them to operate an ‘on-site’ training day. This enabled the firefighters to experience, at first hand, the specialist tools and force required to gain access through a Rockdoor, should the unlikely situation arise.
For this exercise, Rockdoor provided a rig containing 3 different doors, affording the firefighters valuable practice using new state-of-the-art cutting equipment and different entry techniques to gain access to the UKs strongest composite door. Rockdoor engineers were present throughout, providing technical information, expert advice and assisting the crews as required.
Group Manager Alan Walker of Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service commented on this unusual move by the Service. “High-security doors intended to keep burglars out create a challenge too for firefighters with the legitimate reason for breaking in to rescue people. We’ll allow nothing to compromise our ability to rescue people without delay, so by approaching market leaders Rockdoor to help us devise entry techniques for firefighters but not for burglars, we knew we’d face no tougher challenge to get it right first time. A high-tech door required a high-tech approach, using a heavy-duty diamond-tipped blade in a power saw, something that a burglar would be unlikely to carry around with them, much less dare to wake the neighbourhood by using! We’re extremely pleased with the outcome and immensely grateful to Rockdoor for the use of their products, premises and company experts on hand.”
Simon Bird, GAP & Rockdoors Joint MD added, “When approached by Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service, our initial reaction was to question why we’d let anyone practice getting into a Rockdoor. After all we developed the door to be incredibly strong and virtually impossible to break in. However, we recognise the potential difficulties such a secure door could present in an emergency, and felt it was our obligation to accommodate and assist the Service as best we could. ”
